Day 1: How to Drink the Raw Vegan Kool-Aid (Step 1)
OK, folks. This is it. Day 1 of a year without refined sugar, alcohol, and a whole lot of other unhealthy garbage I don’t really need in my life.
If you’re one of the brave souls who have decided to take this journey with me:
Step away from the jelly donut!
Now, as I said in The Rules, I’ll be most likely following a specific diet plan throughout the experiment. The diet plans in which I’m most interested now are: Paleo and 80/10/10. (Those are not affiliate links. I’m not selling a damn thing on this blog.)
I’ve done Paleo before and it worked out really well for me. But I’ve been compelled by the arguments I’ve been hearing by the raw vegans – particularly the 80/10/10 raw vegans – so I’m going to start there. I’ll be pretty much sticking to the plan exactly as Dr. Graham outlines, but will eat an occasional McDougall style (low fat vegan) meal when eating raw is impractical (as per the advice of Durianrider) and may throw in a bit of fruit and vegetable juicing to detox and alkalize.
Is this right for you? That’s between you and your doctor … But here is a nice summary of the key events that led to me drinking the raw vegan kool-aid.
Step 1. Discover That Your Food Supply is Totally Jacked Up
If you haven’t seen Food, Inc., you should drop your plans for tonight and watch it. You will thank me for it.
Tomorrow I’ll post exactly what I ate today. Will you do the same?
